Africa One Group is based in Kampala and Lusaka. AfriBMS is the invoicing we built for our own company first, made into something other businesses in Uganda and Zambia can sign up for.
Why AfriBMS exists
For years our own back office ran the way most small businesses here run: an Excel invoice template with several versions on a shared drive, a WhatsApp group where someone eventually asked whether a client had paid, and a folder of printed copies for the accountant in January.
The international tools we tried assume a card or a bank transfer, one currency and a tax regime already in the product. Here a customer pays half by MTN mobile money on Tuesday and the rest in cash on Friday, the invoice has to carry a TIN or TPIN, and the person who owes you money replies on WhatsApp, not email.
So we built our own invoicing around how business is actually done in Uganda and Zambia, because the invoice is the document that brings money in, and we run our own books on it. Once it worked for us, we opened it to other companies. Sales, stock, accounting and payroll follow in that order, on the same login and the same data.
What we believe
Local practice is the spec
Mobile money, part payments, invoices in shillings and kwacha with the VAT lines and tax numbers on them. These are the normal case here, so they are the normal case in the software, not a workaround.
Say what is built, not what is planned
A module is either available or coming soon, and the label is on every page. We would rather lose a sale than sell a roadmap as a product.
The company owns its data
Your customers, invoices and payments are yours. We will export them for you on request, and if you leave, nothing of yours is held back.
Where we are
A small team in two cities. The product is built here and used here first, which is how a missing feature gets noticed on a Monday and shipped soon after.
